On 6 November, the inauguration of the new routes to Barcelona and Madrid, operated by Volotea, took place at Vitoria-Gasteiz Airport.
With four weekly flights to each destination, these new connections will enhance mobility in Alava and facilitate both business and leisure travel, offering more than 108,000 seats between 2025 and 2026.
The ceremony was attended by representatives from Sociedad para la Promoción del Aeropuerto de Vitoria (VIA) -made up of the Provincial Council of Alava, Vitoria-Gasteiz City Council, the Basque Government, and the Alava Chamber of Commerce- accompanied by the Government Delegate in the Basque Country and the airport director representing Aena.
During the event, authorities and guests highlighted the strategic significance of these routes for the region’s economic, tourism, and business development.
Recognised by Skytrax as “Europe’s Best Low-Cost Airline”, Volotea continues to strengthen its commitment to the Basque Country, promoting sustainable aviation that connects Europe’s medium-sized cities.
